What made you want to participate in this project? I am interested in and value transformation. This project is an homage to the process of transformation by revealing the experience of each creative step along the way. I wanted to participate in that.
Without going back to the art I sent you what do you remember about it? I remember the sensation it gave me though I do not remember the specifics of the song itself, ie: tune, words, content.
What was your first reaction to the art? (thoughts, emotions, memories, tastes, smells etc?) It gave me a very peaceful feeling. When I closed my eyes I had an image of inner light emanating out.
If you had to choose one word to sum up the art I sent what would it be? Strength
What emotion did it elicit? The peace / joy / relief that comes with remembering / re-realizing we can trust and rely on our inner strength.
What was the art about in your mind? (Did it tell a story? Paint a picture? Etc.) Inner strength
Take me through each step of your process from getting the art to the creation of your work. It began with a sense of curiosity – like the kind that comes with opening an unexpected gift. I listened many times, first in a literal, thoughtful, intentional, conscientious way – almost “trying” to listen and “trying” to see what was evoked. And then, after many times, I stopped trying and simply allowed the inner process to unfold. What came was a strong sense/sensation of a bright light in the heart space – that was directly awoken by the spirit of the song.
What did you title your work and why? Heartsong seemed right.
What part of your work came to you first? I started in the center and worked my way out, both physically/literally and metaphorically, too.
How do you normally create? How was this experience different? This was a very different experience for me. It was much more of an intentional process. I liked the experience of responding – and in particular, responding to something that was so new to me, that was presented to me. This was not a “simple” experience. It was quite complex. I remember I felt an obligation to the work that was presented to me to be as honest with the process as was possible.
What techniques/tools did you use to help you express you’re interpretation? I painted with oil paint. Oil paints are alive, which felt especially relevant and meaningful for the project, and how participating in the project made me feel.
Are there certain choices you made which mean something specific to you that the observer might not know? The guidelines I set for the making of the piece were really just to create from an honest, receptive space and to honor the process of Consenses.

Thank you again for the invitation to participate and for including my work in this project. I am sad I am unable to attend the celebration on MV and look forward to seeing images of the rest of the work – and all the “chains” of creative inspiration and expression!
