Interview
Consenses Interview with Sally Taylor:
Your Name: Laura Luchetti Where you live: Between Rome and London Where you came from: Rome Your Medium: Film The name of your work: “Searching”
What made you want to participate in this project? This is a unique project that brings together people from around the world who have a story to tell with completely different means of expressions. It’s a project about Inspiration tout court. You receive a work and get inspired by it and then you make your own and you know that hopefully is going to inspire someone else and so on. It’s what I call a marvelous “chain of inspirations”….
What was your first reaction to the song? (thoughts, images, emotions, memories, tastes, smells etc?)Lightness, sunshine and melancholy.
What was this song about in your mind? Ascending. Searching for a sort of deeper knowledge.
What did you title your work and why? The work is called “Searching” . We are constantly searching for something, something special and most of the time what we are searching for it’s not far at all……we need to learn how to perceive things rather than see them.
What part of the song informed you’re interpretation the most (lyrics, instrumentation, vocals)? The three elements together : lyrics, instrumentation, vocals.
What part of your film came to you first? The wings….
What was your process? How did you take your original reaction and turn it into this film? By instinct.
How do you normally create? How was this experience different? In a proper film usually there is more planning and thinking. Here I tried to get driven by my instinct.
What techniques/tools did you use to help you express you’re interpretation? (colors, props, people, places, angles) The place for sure is what helped me express my interpretation the most. I find the little park where I shot the video a “magic place”. It’s an almost forgotten park on a hill in the centre of Rome where there is a beautiful view of the Eternal city. Every time I go there I feel like I am in a special place, where time is somehow suspended……so I imagined there were two presences there looking for each other. They are so close, but somehow the woman cannot see what she is looking for….When she decides not to “look” but to “feel”, she will finally finds what she is searching for.
Are there certain choices you made which mean something specific to you that the observer might not know? I guess the best thing is for everybody to watch the video and get their “own meaning” of my intentions…..this is the beauty of our work, whatever we meant while making our project all the people who will watch it will get their own reactions and find their own meanings.
Extra credit: Did you enjoy this project? More you want to say about your experience? As I said this was a unique experience that I enjoyed a lot. I wish more projects like this would come along. I have now an irresistible curiosity to see all the other projects and meet all the other artists. Sally has put together and amazing Leviathan of works of Art, she is a courageous and enlightened woman ! We need more people like her. Last but not least I want to thank the lovely people involved in the making of this video :Ferran Paredes Rubio, Anna Bellato, Lucia Bricknell and Emanuele Sana.
